This is no ordinary self-drive tour – it’s a rugged 4×4 expedition along one of Africa’s most untamed coastlines.

Starting in Cape Town, you’ll journey north with your guide and crew through South Africa’s scenic West Coast, a hidden gem that few travellers ever experience.

Cross the mighty Orange River into Namibia, where dramatic landscapes unfold at every turn: the awe-inspiring Fish River Canyon, one of the world’s largest and most spectacular gorges, leads you onward before we venture deep into a restricted zone of the Namib Desert.

A pristine wilderness accessible only with special permits.

Your journey ends in Swakopmund, where the desert meets the ocean.

Our experienced guide will provide hands-on 4×4 driving training throughout the journey, ensuring you master the art of navigating these wild landscapes while experiencing the raw, untamed beauty of Southern Africa.

Please note that on this 4×4 self-drive safari in South Africa and Namibia most days will be long, a good knowledge of off-road driving is beneficial.

Today marks the start of your 4×4 guided self-drive tour in South Africa and Namibia – an exhilarating adventure. We gather to sign out our vehicles, filled with anticipation for the journey ahead!

Leaving the vibrant city of Cape Town behind, we’ll set our sights on the stunning Atlantis Dunes, where the golden sands await us for an exciting practical training session in sand driving techniques. Here, we’ll push our vehicles to their limits, mastering the art of navigating the dunes and soaking in the breathtaking landscape around us.

After testing our skills, we’ll take a well-deserved break for lunch amidst the dunes, relishing the beauty of our surroundings.

Refreshed and invigorated, we’ll continue our journey to the charming coastal village of Paternoster, where the rhythmic sound of waves and the scent of the sea will welcome us. Get ready for a delightful seaside experience that promises to enchant and inspire.

Dinner will be (own expense) at a local restaurant.

After a leisurely breakfast, we’ll set off on an adventure that takes us north along the breathtaking West Coast of South Africa. As we pass through the picturesque towns of Eland’s Bay and Lamberts Bay, the stunning landscapes will unfold before us, culminating in the wild beauty of Namaqua National Park on our journey to Hondeklip Bay.

Nestled in this charming fishing village, we’ll spend the next two nights soaking in the tranquil atmosphere and the rhythm of the sea.

The following morning promises to be unforgettable as we embark on a private guided tour of the coastline’s hauntingly beautiful shipwrecks. Each wreck tells a story of adventure and mystery, and we’ll explore these fascinating relics against the backdrop of the dramatic ocean.

You will spend two nights at Honnehokke Chalets.

Today promises to be a thrilling journey as we make our way up the coast to Alexander Bay, where the mighty Orange River meets the vast Atlantic Ocean, creating a breathtaking natural border between South Africa and Namibia.

The landscapes along the way will captivate us, each moment brimming with the beauty of the rugged coast. We’ll venture inland to Sendelingsdrift, where we’ll spend the next 2 nights along the tranquil banks of the Orange River. The soothing sounds of the water will cradle us as we reflect on the day’s adventures.

The excitement continues the following day as we delve into the stunning Richtersveld National Park. Known for its dramatic landscapes and unique flora, this place will leave us in awe of nature’s artistry. An highlight on this 4×4 guided self-drive tour in South Africa and Namibia.

Day 6 | Sendelingsdrift, South Africa – Hobas, Namibia

After a restful night and a hearty breakfast, we’ll embark on an exhilarating journey as we cross the Orange River via the Octha Ferry, leaving behind the tranquil waters and heading east along the riverbanks to Aussenkehr. The vibrant landscapes will unfold around us, each bend revealing the beauty of southern Namibia.

Once we bid farewell to the river, we’ll set our sights on Hobas and the majestic Fish River Canyon. This stunning natural wonder awaits, and we’ll spend the afternoon exploring its dramatic edges, marvelling at the breathtaking views that stretch endlessly before us. As the sun begins to set, the canyon will transform into a canvas of vibrant colours, a spectacle that will leave us in awe.

We’ll return to Hobas for a memorable dinner under the stars, the vast Namibian sky enveloping us in its beauty. It’s a perfect way to cap off a day filled with adventure, connection, and the unforgettable charm of southern Namibia!

Day 7-11 | Hobas – Naukluft Mountains

After a rejuvenating night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast, we’ll set out on an exhilarating journey into the heart of the Namib Desert. We arrive on the campsite at a local lodge in the late afternoon and meet up with our local guide who will take us through the desert direction Walvis Bay. On Day 8 we head off into the desert stopping in Solitaire where we re-fill our vehicles.

Over the next 3 days you visit the Kuiseb Canyon, Conception Bay and the wrecks of the Eduard Bohlen and Shawnee. Desert wildlife, spectacular scenery, untouched beaches, miles of sand-driving and shipwrecks are some of the attractions along the way.

Travelling this stretch of the Namib Desert is a once-in-a-lifetime journey only very few people get to experience. The area is not open to the public and only special permit holders can experience this wilderness area.

After a delightful breakfast, we’ll bid a fond farewell to the enchanting desert and set our sights on the vibrant coastal town of Swakopmund. This charming destination is where the Namib Desert meets the Atlantic Ocean, and we’ll spend the next two nights here, surrounded by stunning landscapes and endless adventure.

Get ready to dive into some of Namibia’s most thrilling activities! Whether you’re eager to feel the rush of sandboarding down the dunes, zooming across the landscape on a quad bike, soaring through the skies while skydiving over the desert, or enjoying a serene boat cruise, Swakopmund has something to ignite everyone’s sense of adventure. As we prepare to head back to Windhoek, let the memories of breathtaking sunsets, wild adventures, and the spirit of exploration accompany us. This isn’t just the end of our tour; it’s a celebration of the journey we’ve taken together, filled with laughter, discovery, and the beauty of the West Coast.

We finish at the airport around 15h00 in time to catch international flights or spend a last evening in Windhoek.
